ASTON, Pa. – Widener women's basketball totaled 46 points in the second half to overcome Neumann 69-65 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening.
Following the win, the Pride move to 2-4 in the regular season and still await a MAC Commonwealth contest.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Junior Gianna Samuels led the Pride in points with 21, shooting 7 of 11 from the floor, 5 of 8 from the three-point line, and going 2 of 3 from the line.
- Mia Robbins credited 10 rebounds and added 15 points to her career stats.
- Robbins also found two blocks and a steal in her 30 minutes of play.
- From the bench, Mary McFillin found six points to help the Pride.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE MIRENDA CENTER
The Pride started off hot with a 15-8 lead at the end of the first. The team shot 6 of 15 in field goals and 3 of 7 from the three line which out shot the Knights in all stats. The Knights answered in the second and found a rhythm to score 24 points to the Pride eight. In the second quarter, the Blue and Gold shot 2 of 12 to Neumann's 10 of 18 and fell into a nine-point deficit going into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Pride found a surge and totaled 46 points in the two quarters. The third quarter saw 7 of 11 from the floor and 2 of 2 for three compared to the Knights 3 of 15 and 1 of 5. The fourth quarter was no let up from the women as they scored 24 points to earn a 69-65 final. On the night, Widener found 24 points in the paint, 21 off turnovers caused, and turned rebounded baskets into 10 points.

Widener looks to continue to add to their record next Wednesday on the road for their first MAC Commonwealth matchup against Alvernia. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m following the men's game.
