Women’s Basketball Battled Hard Against Swarthmore

Pride saw 7 ties and 3 lead changes

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Widener women's basketball team took a trip down the street to Tarble Pavillion and fought hard against Swarthmore on Tuesday night.
 
Following the 56-46 loss, the Pride fall to 1-2 on the season and remain record less in MAC Commonwealth play. 
 
A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS
  • First year Mia Robbins led the Pride in points with 10, shooting 4 of 11 from the floor and missing one from beyond the arch.
  • Robbins also capitalized on rebounds along with teammate Ava Baer with eight.
  • Jordan D'Ambrosio added eight points while going 3 of 10 in the paint and 1 of 4 from the 3-point line.  
  • From the bench, Kimberly Cassiello dropped seven points and found five rebounds. 
HOW IT HAPPENED IN TARBLE PAVILLION
 
The Pride and Garnet went back and forth in the first quarter with a 15-13 in favor of Swartmore. The women dominated the field goals out shooting by 3% in the first. The Garnets locked the second quarter up to lead by five points making the game a 13-point advantage going into halftime.
 
After a low scoring third quarter, the Blue and Gold answer shooing 33.33% to Swartmore's 26.67%. The Pride chip away at the 13-point advantage and bring it down to 12. The three-point shooting struggles continued in the fourth with 1 of 6 finding the net. The team tallied 14 points but they were not enough to take the win. The Pride found 12 points off turnovers, 24 points in the paint, and 11 off of second changes.
 
UP NEXT
Widener looks to bounce back this coming Friday and Saturday as they travel to Arlington, Va. to play the Marymount Tournament. First tip off for the Pride is at 8:00 p.m. on Friday with either a consolation or championship tip off at 5:30/7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
