Men’s Swimming Splits In Saturday Dual Meet Against Salisbury and Cabrini

Jason Mongiovi adds three individual wins

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener men's swimming returned home Saturday afternoon against Salisbury and Cabrini in a full meet lineup in the Schwartz Athletic Center. The Pride split the victories, winning against Cabrini but falling to Salisbury. 

Widener: 81       Salisbury: 179
Widener: 129     Cabrini: 114
 
After the split, the men's team moves to 6-3 in the regular season and remains 3-1 in MAC rankings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SALISBURY AND CABRINI 
  • The Pride opened the meet with a strong 200 medley relay comprised of Patrick Rauch, Jason Mongiovi, Joshua Cunningham, and Shane Douthit. The sophomore relay took first to get the natatorium rocking with a time of 1:39.54 and an out touch to Salibsury.
  • Mongiovi quickly bounces back an event later to find the wall first in the 1000 free in a time of 10:32.59 to win by nearly ten seconds.
  • A few events later in the 100 backstroke, Rauch earned a second place hitting in a 56.79 to escape a 1-2 finish from the Seagulls.
  • Cunningham helped balance points out by grabbing 4 in the 100 breaststroke in a 1:05.09 to out touch Cabrini.
  • Mongiovi's second win came in the 200 butterfly where he posted the top time in the MAC this season with a final time of 1:58.98.
  • The splash and dash 50 free from sophomore Shane Douthit earned a third place just breaking up a 1-2 finish from Salisbury in a 22.55.
  • Following the first break, Rauch snuck in a third place finish in the 200 backstroke in a 2:03.97.
  • Junior Patrick Rankin also grabbed a third place in the 200 breaststroke in a 2:24.77.
  • Right after the last break, Mongiovi secured his third individual win in the 200 individual medley to hold off charging a charging Cabrini swimmer by two seconds. Mongiovi's 2:01.45 earned another top time in the MAC.
UP NEXT
Widener men's swimming hits the road next Friday and Saturday to Dallas, Pa. where they swim in their midseason invitational. Misericordia's Cougar Splash is set for three sessions spread over two days of competition.
