ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Shawn Thompson rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns on 27 attempts while leading the Widener football team to a 26-20 victory over Lebanon Valley on Saturday at Arnold Field.
With the win, the Pride improved to 3-5 on the year and 2-4 in MAC play. The win marked the second straight victory for the Blue and Gold.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LEBANON VALLEY
- The Pride jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game after Thompson scored his first TD on a 19-yard run. Thompson's TD capped a five-play, 75-yard drive that was set up by a 47-yard reception by Cameron Hooper.
- After the Dutchmen scored a TD to start the second quarter and cut the deficit to one, the Pride pushed their lead back to 13-6 with 4:43 left after Jordan Baxter caught a 35-yard TD pass from Jeff Chaplin. The Pride took that lead into halftime.
- In the second half, Thompson increased the Pride's lead to 19-6 after rushing for a 15-yard score. On that nine-play, 71-yard scoring drive, the senior running back rushed for 46 yards on four carries.
- After LVC scored a two-point conversion on the ensuing Widener PAT attempt and added a touchdown to start the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 19-14, Widener got back up by a 26-14 count with 4:48 left after Baxter brought in his second receiving TD on a 13-yard pass from Chaplin.
- LVC managed to get one more TD with 3:11 left, but the Pride fended the Dutchmen off on their next two drives to earn the victory.
By The Numbers
- Thompson scored two touchdowns in a game for the third time this season. Thompson now has seven TDs, which is tied for third in the MAC.
- Thompson also rushed for over 100 yards for the third time this season. Thompson now has 672 rushing yards, which also ranks third in the MAC.
- Baxter led the Pride in receiving yards with 66 on four receptions. The senior wideout now ranks third in the MAC in receiving TDs.
- Michael Schoenleber led the Pride defense, as he made 10 tackles (four solo, six assisted).

Widener will head to Williamsport to take on Lycoming in another MAC contest. Kickoff is set for noon.
