Football Battles Hard Against Lycoming

Thompson scores two touchdowns for the Pride

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.-The Widener football team took on the Lycoming College Knights in Middle Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon. A strong 3rd quarter push from the Knights set them ahead and the Pride couldn't retaliate before the clock ran out.

The Pride is now 3-6 on the season and 2-5 in conference.

HERE'S HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LYCOMING

  • An early 38-yard field goal by Ryan Pattinson put the Pride on the scoreboard in the first quarter.
  • Shawn Thompson was able to get in the endzone from an eight yard pass from Jeff Chaplin with 13 minutes remaining in the second quarter, raising the score to 10-0 after a good kick attempt from Ryan Pattison. Lycoming answered abruptly with two touchdowns, bringing the score to 10-14 going into halftime.
  • In the second half, the Pride had a hard time getting anything going on offense, as Lycoming prevented them from getting on the scoreboard and allowed 183 total yards. As a result, Lycoming scored a touchdown in the third quarter and fourth quarter. The -Pride was able find the endzone one last time with three minutes remaining as Jeff Chaplin found Shawn Thompson to score a final touchdown of the game, leaving the Pride to walk away with a 28-16 loss.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Chaplin threw two touchdown passes for a total of 204 yards this game, a career high.
  • Jordan Baxter led the day in receiving yards with 69 yards.
  • Defensively, Colin Murt tallied eleven tackles, Dom D'Alessio had one sack and Marcus Taylor had an interception.

The Pride finishes out their schedule against Delaware Valley on Saturday, November 12 at Quick Stadium. Widener football will be honoring their seniors this game. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
