CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University football team break their 0-4 losing streak with a 34-28 win over Albright College this afternoon at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
Today's victory improves the Pride's record to 2-5 on the season and 1-4 in the MAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST THE LIONS
- The Pride strike first seven minutes in with a 1-yard run by quarterback, Jeff Chaplin. Chaplin's touchdown cap off a 5-play and 55-yard drive.
- Ty Holbert extends the Pride lead 14-0 with a 31-yard pass from Chaplin.
- Albright answers back four minutes later cutting the lead to seven.
- The Pride answer right back with a go-ahead TD to Isaac Hostetter. Chaplin marches the Pride down the field to extend the lead back to 14 points.
- Going into halftime, the Blue and Gold keep a 7-point lead. The Pride offense keep the pressure up by tacking on another 3-points with twelve minutes in left in the third quarter. Ryan Pattison kicked a 27-yard field goal to score the only points of the third.
- The fourth quarter had the crowd on the edge of their seats as the two teams battled back and forth scoring 24 combined points. With 11:13 minutes left in the game; Pattison pushes the lead further with a 44-yard field goal to make the score 27-14.
- The Lions answer back cutting the score down to seven again with a 7-play, 87-yard drive.
- With 2:32 left, the Blue and Gold answer with a two-yard run by Chaplin. Albright get the ball back with 2:24 remaining and two timeouts and answer again with a 10-yard run.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pride offense drive 299 total offensive yards with 30+ minutes of gametime. The defense did its job with three sacks, one interception, and one fumble.
- Chaplin goes 14-of-32 passes for 195-yards and one TD. Teammate, Thompson also goes 1-of-1 for 6-yards and one TD.
- Holbert led the pride with 2 receptions for 61-yards and one TD.
- The ground game stayed in the background this afternoon with Shawn Thompson leading the rush game with 64-yards.
- On the defensive side, Dom D'Alessio and Colin Murt keep the Lion's offensive on its heels with 9 tackles a piece. D'Alessio also registered 1 sack for a 7-yard drop.

Widener travels to Annville, Pa. to take on Lebanon Valley College in another Middle Atlantic Conference matchup. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
