CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener men's basketball team made a strong rally in the second half, but its effort fell just short as it dropped a 69-64 contest to Stevenson in MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday afternoon at Schwartz Athletic Center.
Matt Daulerio poured in a game-high 25 points for the Pride, who fell to 1-5 in conference play and 5-8 overall with the defeat.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST STEVENSON
- Trailing, 57-45, with 8:44 left, the Pride managed to take a 64-63 with 1:56 remaining by going on a 19-6 run. Daulerio scored eight points during the run, including a three-pointer that gave the Pride the lead.
- Unfortunately, the Mustangs got a floating jump shot from Ronald Ayers, a layup from Khalil Richard off a turnover, and another floater from Jalen Cox in the final minutes to earn the win.
- Daulerio finished the game 10-for-14 (71.4 percent) from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range. The Chester Springs, Pa. native also tied for the team-lead in rebounds with six.
- Kenny Lewis also scored in double figures for the Pride, netting 12 points.
- Jared Peters is inching closer to becoming the 28th player in Widener history to score 1,000 career points. The graduate student from Shillington, Pa. needs 14 points to reach the milestone after scoring five against the Mustangs.
