Radnoff’s 4 Goals Lead Field Hockey to Victory Over Del Val

Sanchez, Foglio, Schlosser score in Pride’s first win of the season; McCarthy picks up 1st coaching win

CHESTER, Pa. - Senior forward Madi Radnoff fired in a career-high four goals while leading the Widener University field hockey team to a 7-0 victory over Delaware Valley in its home opener Saturday at Edith R. Dixon Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Radnoff tallied a hat trick in the first half, scoring one goal in the first period and two in the second, to help give the Pride a 4-0 halftime lead. Radnoff also assisted on first-year Juliana Sanchez's goal in the second period and put in her final goal of the game three minutes into the third period.

  • Radnoff's four goals surpassed her previous game-high of three, which she had on Sept. 20, 2019 against Notre Dame of Maryland. She also tied her career high in points in a single game with nine.

  • Sanchez and senior Sophia-Marie Foglio both scored their first career goals. Sanchez knocked in her goal two minutes into the second period, while Foglio put in her goal to make it 7-0 with 13:31 left in the game.

  • Senior Jess Schlosser scored her first goal of the year 45 seconds into the final period.

  • The Pride dominated the offensive possession for most of the game. Widener outshot Delaware Valley, 20-2, with Radnoff taking 10 of the shots.

  • Widener head coach Melissa McCarthy picked up her first career victory at the helm. McCarthy was an assistant coach for the past five seasons with the Pride before taking over the program following Larissa Gillespie's retirement.
