CHESTER, Pa. –
Sean Fatiga and
Nick Brison tied single-match program scoring records as the Widener University men's soccer team downed Misericordia University 5-0. With the win, the Pride reaches .500 at 4-4-0 in non-conference play.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore forward Sean Fatiga netted a career-high four goals and recorded eight points on the day, marks that both tie Widener single-match records. The only other Pride player to achieve the feat was Tori Remondelli who scored four times in a 5-0 win over Penn State Brandywine on September 17, 2014. Fatiga's 10 goals this season leads the MAC Commonwealth and ranks top-20 nationally.
- Senior Nick Brison also matched a single-game record by becoming just the fourth WU player to deliver on three assists in a match. The last to do it was Bill James when he dished out four helpers in a 10-0 win over Penn State Abington on October 2, 2007.
- Brison also picked up in his third goal of the season. He is currently second on the team in scoring behind Fatiga.
- Peter O'Connor and Noah Saba both notched their first assists of the year.
- Widener goalkeeper Ryan Van Pelt turned in his third shutout performance this fall and came up with four saves. Sophomore keeper Andrew Garofalo also made his first appearance in net for the Pride, allowing no goals in 18 minutes of play.
- The Blue and Gold's five goals is the most it has scored since September 16, 2017 when it downed Gwynedd Mercy 5-1. The 5-0 win also represents its largest margin of victory since it recorded another 5-0 decision over Alvernia on October 28, 2015.
