FREDERICK, Md. - The Widener University women's volleyball team earned its first MAC Commonwealth win of the season as it defeated Hood, 25-20, 25-19, 19-25, 25-19, on Wednesday night on the road. 

With the victory, the Pride are 1-1 in conference play and 9-3 overall on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HOOD  

• The Pride tallied 54 kills on the night, with 17 of them coming in the first set. Their 54 kills tied for the second-highest amount of kills they had in a match this season, as they also had that many against St. Mary's on Sept. 4 and had 55 against Catholic University on Sept. 10. 

• Abigail Herrin led the team with 11 kills in the match.  

• Megan Barthol topped the Blue and Gold with 23 assists. Sydney Nichols and Madeline Dutterer each had double figures in assists, as Nichols handed out 14 assists while Dutterer had 11.  

• The Pride played incredibly well on defense, as it totaled 76 digs — their most in a match this season. Dutterer led the team with 20, while Rachel DiCarlo (11), Shelby Motz (11), and Barthol (10) were in double figures for Widener. 

• The Pride also got great defensive production on the front line, as it had 12 blocks on the night. Shannon Toomey led the Pride with four.

Widener returns to Chester to host a tri-match with Neumann and Clarks Summit on Saturday at Schwartz Athletic Center. The Pride will face Neumann at 10 a.m. and Clarks Summit at 2 p.m.
