Late Fatiga Goal Gives Men's Soccer OT Win Over Haverford

Win marks Pride's first overtime victory since 2015

HAVERFORD, Pa. – With 6:07 remaining in the first overtime period, sophomore forward Sean Fatiga netted the game-winning goal to give the Widener University men's soccer team a 1-0 decision over Haverford College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Haverford controlled much of the attack in the opening 45 minutes, but sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Van Pelt came up with four first half saves to keep the tally 0-0 entering halftime.
  • The Pride made some adjustments at the midpoint and out shot the Fords 7-3 in the second, but stout defense from both sides kept the teams scoreless through regulation.
  • Nearly four minutes into the first overtime period, Fatiga pressured a Haverford defender and stole the ball just outside the penalty box. With an unguarded shot, he beat the keeper high and ended the match in the 94th minute.

GAME NOTES
  • With his performance, Fatiga now leads the MAC Commonwealth in goals (5), points (10), game-winning goals (2), shots (17), and shots on goal (9) through five matches.
  • Goalkeeper Ryan Van Pelt's six save outing puts him second in the conference with 16 stops.
  • The victory marks Widener's first win in overtime since November 2, 2015 when the Pride defeated Arcadia University 3-2 in the first round of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. The last regular season overtime win came on September 26, 2012 when WU downed Berkeley College 1-0.
