Men's Soccer Faces Washington College In Haverford Tournament

The Pride has reached the midpoint of its non-conference schedule

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Widener University men's soccer team faced Washington College on Saturday afternoon in the opening match of the Jimmy Mills Tournament, but fell 4-0 to the Shoremen in its third setback of the season. The Pride has reached the midpoint of its non-conference slate with just four games remaining until MAC Commonwealth play begins.

Washington College struck first in the contest's opening minutes off a 25-yard shot by forward James Strine. The Shoremen added to that advantage shortly after when a blocked shot deflected and gave one of their players an open look on net. The second act was much of the same as Washington added some more insurance to its lead with scores in the 54th and 60th minutes.

Senior Vinnie Nocito made his first start of the season in goal and came up with seven saves, but it was not enough to fend of the Shoremen attack as Washington clung on to its 4-0 advantage as time expired.

Widener continues play in the Jimmy Mills Tournament with a match against Haverford College on Sunday, September 15. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
