Field Hockey Rolls To Third Straight Win vs. Goucher

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Widener University field hockey team extended its win streak to three  as it took down the Goucher Gophers 7-0 on the road Friday night.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Blue and Gold put a consistent offensive pressure on Goucher throughout the game, firing off a season-high 29 shots (including 19 on goal) while the WU defense held the Gophers to zero attempts.
  • Widener also held an 18-0 advanatage in penalty corners.
  • The win marks the Pride's second shutout victory in its first four games and its 14th in the past two seasons dating back to 2019.
  • Three players recorded their first career goals in the match: Makenzie Adamson, Jess Alba, and Bryn Marcavage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when the MAC Commonwealth's leading goal scorer, Madi Radnoff, took a pass off a penalty corner from Maddie Hoyer and put it over Goucher's goalie for her sixth score of the season.
  • Marcavage was the next to find the scoreboard when she recorded her first career goal early in the second off a feed into the box from senior Erin Callahan. Shortly after, Adamson saw her first tally in a blue and gold uniform to give the Pride a 3-0 advantage entering halftime.
  • The second half was much of the same for WU as Adamason and Callahan added some insurance to the Pride's lead with a pair of goals just three minutes apart to make the tally 5-0 by the end of the third.
  • Schlosser and Alba tacked on two more scores late in fourth to all but secure the win as the Blue and Gold advanced to 3-1 on the season.
