SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Widener University women's volleyball team opened its season in dominating fashion, sweeping Swarthmore, 25-10, 25-11, 25-19, on Wednesday night at Swarthmore College.
MATCH NOTES

Lilyanna Martucci and Alnisha Saintilus led the Pride with eight kills apiece on the night. Saintilus posted a .368 hitting percentage, while Martucci hit .357.

Madeline Dutterer totaled a match-high 18 digs for the Pride.

Megan Barthol led the Blue and Gold with 14 assists.

After the two teams were tied at 8 in the first set, the Pride went on a 17-2 run to take the win.

Shelby Motz played a big part in the Pride's 17-2 run in the opening set, tallying five of her match-high eight aces.

Leading, 11-8, in the second set, Widener put together another major run, going on a 14-3 spurt to come away with the victory.

In the third set, Martucci had five of eight kills while Barthol had seven of her 14 assists, including one on the final point on Isabella Ricevuto's kill to clinch the match.

Widener travels to Baltimore on Saturday to play in a tri-match against host Goucher College and St. Mary's College of Maryland. The Pride will face Goucher at noon and St. Mary's at 2 p.m.
