In accordance with the Middle Atlantic Conference decision to allow individual universities to make decisions regarding fan attendance during the spring semester, Widener University is implementing the following policy:
This spring, spectators will be invited to watch our baseball, softball, and men's and women's lacrosse teams compete on Main Campus. While the track and field team will compete, spectators will not be permitted at these events, to ensure there is adequate space to accommodate social distancing for all athletes. The golf team will compete this spring off campus and those interested in viewing these events must observe spectator policies at the individual courses where competition takes place. Our fall 2020 sports teams will also be participating in a limited number of events this spring, and spectators will be invited to attend. These will include competitions and scrimmages for our men's and women's soccer and field hockey teams.
At Widener, beginning on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, the policy for all Main Campus university-sanctioned, regular-season outdoor athletic competition and scrimmages includes the following:
- Spectators will be permitted only for designated outdoor, university-sanctioned events.
- Only spectators invited by Widener athletes will be allowed access to events. Spectators from opposing teams will not be permitted to attend.
- Each Widener athlete may invite 2 spectators per event. If an athlete chooses not to invite spectators, they may not share or distribute their unused invitations with other athletes.
- Invited spectators will be placed on a pass list and will be required to check in before attending the event.
- All spectators must wear masks and practice appropriate social distancing at all times while in attendance. All benches, bleachers, and spectator spaces on Widener's Main Campus are marked for appropriate social distancing.
- Tailgating or gathering in parking lots will not be permitted.
- Failure to comply with these policies will result in removal from the competition site.
Facilities will open 45 minutes prior to game time by a Widener or campus safety staff member. Outdoor facilities will be marked for social distancing. Any further questions should be directed to
