Boxscore CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University men's basketball team fell 92-90 to the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen in a double overtime thriller that saw 20 lead changes between the two teams.

  • Steven Matlack scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting and grabbed seven boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
LVC took the early lead, going up 12-6 after five minutes of play. The Blue and Gold responded quickly behind some strong first half three-point shooting and grabbed an 11 point advantage by the 5:11 mark. However, a late scoring surge by the Dutchmen allowed them to lock things back up at 31 entering halftime.

Both teams continued to go back and forth in the second, changing leads 13 times in the half. Down by one with a minute to play, Bo Furey-Bastian scored a layup to put the Pride ahead. An ensuing Widener foul and LVC free-throw evened the score at 64 and sent the match into OT.

The Dutchmen opened the extra period hot, knocking down three straight three-pointers. Widener was able to cut its deficit to two with seven seconds remaining. Steven Matlack then grabbed a rebound off a missed LVC free throw and took it down the court to the basket to tie things up once again and send the game into double-overtime. While both teams fought neck and neck in the second extra period, the Dutchmen were able to hold off the Pride in the final seconds and come away with the win.

Widener closes out its conference schedule with a back-to-back against Messiah. The Pride takes on the Falcons at the Schwartz Center on Thursday, March 4, and travels to Grantham on Friday, March 5. Both games are set to tip off at 7 p.m.
