GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Widener University men's volleyball team opened its season on Wednesday night, battling the Arcadia Knights. Despite some strong individual performances, the Pride was upended 14-25, 20-25, 18-25.
 
BY THE NUMBERS

• Matt Blaum led the Pride with four kills, adding three blocks and four digs.
• Josh Matchett had 12 assists to go along with three kills and an ace.
• Matt Lambert topped the Blue and Gold with seven digs.
• Ethan Cox enjoyed a solid debut with three kills and four blocks.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Arcadia got off to a quick 4-0 in the opening set, Widener settled in and kept the margin within 4-6 points through the majority of the set. A service error on the Knights pulled the Pride to 19-13, but AU rallied, closing the frame on a 6-1 run.
 
In the second, the Blue and Gold got off to a very good start, scoring nine of the first 13 points. Arcadia eventually battled back into the set and took the stanza 25-20. The third set also saw the Pride start well before a late push by the Knights closed the  match.
