Field Hockey Advances To ECAC Semifinals With Win Over William Paterson

Sanchez scores only goal in the 35th minute; Haberstroh delivers 10th shutout win

CHESTER, Pa. – For the second time in school history, the Widener University field hockey team advanced to the ECAC semifinals with its 1-0 victory over William Paterson on Wednesday night at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • First year Juliana Sanchez scored the game's only goal in the 35th minute, her eighth of the season.
  • The Pride delivered its 10th clean sheet of the season against the Pioneers. Goalkeeper Kylie Haberstroh's 10 shutouts in a single season rank second all-time in school history.
  • The last time the Blue and Gold won the opening round of the ECAC semifinals was on Nov. 8, 2017 when it took down DeSales, 2-0.
  • The Pride held a 14-10 shot advantage over William Paterson and a 7-6 edge in penalty corners. The Pioneers did manage to take a 5-3 advantage in attempts in the second period, only for WU to come out of the second half out shooting them 8-2. 
 
UP NEXT
Widener hits the road to face the top-seeded Ramapo College in the semifinals on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
