MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The Widener University women's swimming team picked up two victories against King's and Hood during a quad meet Saturday at Messiah.
The Pride posted a 159-42 win over King's and a 151-53 victory over Hood. However, the Pride dropped a close meet to Messiah, 114-90.
The Pride earned their victories after winning five of the 11 events and receiving 10 top-three finishes on the day.
The Blue and Gold kicked off the meet by receiving a victory from its 200-yard medley relay team. The team of
Mia Ruggiero,
Angelina Franceschini,
Kyra Schwerzler, and
Azaria Luckey finished first in a time of 1:53.15.
Then, Ruggiero came away with victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle races while Franceschini and
Claire Rankin added wins in the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke. Ruggiero won the 50 free in 26.08 and took the 100 free in 56.42. Franceschini won the 200 fly in 2:19.76, while Rankin touched the wall first in the 200 back in 2:13.19.
The Pride also received a second-place finish from Rankin in the 200 free, a second from Schwerzler in the 200 IM, a second from their 200 free relay team, a third-place finish from Schwerzler in the 200 breaststroke, and a third from
Sally Meyers in the 200 fly.
