CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University women's soccer team battled Lebanon Valley College in a MAC Commonwealth showdown on Wednesday night, but was dealt its first conference setback of the season as the Flying Dutchmen came out on top by a final score of 1-0.
Both sides went back and forth all night, combining for 33 total shots in the match. Widener goalkeeper
Samantha Coon came up with four first half saves to keep the score locked at zero at the midpoint.
The Dutchmen finally ended the deadlock in the 75th minute. An LVC corner was initially punched away by Coon, but was subsequently collected by Dutchmen forward Hannah Ferguson who rifled it home for the match's only score. The Pride made one final push, getting off two shots and taking a corner in the final three minutes of play, but the Dutchmen were able to fend off the late WU attack and secure the 1-0 victory.
The Blue and Gold returns to action this Saturday, October 9 when it travels to Penn State Brandywine for its final non-conference match of the regular season. Kick-off is scheduled for noon.
