OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Widener University women's soccer team continued MAC Commonwealth play with a match at Stevenson on Tuesday night, but was dealt its second conference setback of the season as the Mustangs claimed the 2-1 decision.
Widener controlled the opening half of play, outshooting Stevenson 13-3. The Pride got on the board first in the 17th minute when first year forward
Alyssa Carman fired a shot that hit the near post and deflected off the Mustangs goalkeeper into the net. The score went down as a Stevenson own goal, but put the Blue and Gold up 1-0 entering halftime.
After a scoreless 20 minutes to open the second act, the Mustangs finally evened up the tally off a set piece goal with 25:12 remaining in regulation. 12 minutes later, they scored another on a corner kick to take the lead.
WU would get two more shots off and a pair of corners in one final offensive push, but Stevenson held off the late Pride attack to cement the final tally.
Widener looks to bounce back on Friday, October 15 when it hosts the Blazers of Hood College at Quick Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
