READING, Pa. – The Widener University women's soccer team extended its win streak to four as it took down Alvernia 1-0 in its MAC Commonwealth opener on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Pride advanced to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
HIGHLIGHTS
- After 73 minutes of scoreless play, sophomore Emily Midura fired in the match's lone goal – the first of her career. Pride midfielder Emily Schall chipped a pass across the penalty box to Midura who rifled it home to the far post. The assist also represented Schall's first of her career.
- The shutout victory marks the fourth in a row for the Blue and Gold. WU has not allowed its opponent to score a single goal in every one of its six wins this season.
- For the first time this year, the Widener defense also did not allow a single shot from the Golden Wolves all match.
- On the offensive end, the Pride fired off 14 shots, including eight on goal, and held a 6-1 advantage on corners.
