Melissa Koch ended the match with her second goal of the evening to lift the Widener University women's soccer team to a 3-2 OT victory over Albright.
With the win, the Pride advanced to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in MAC Commonwealth, moving it up to third in the conference standings.
GAME NOTES
- Koch delivered her second career multi-goal performance with two scores in the match. She joins Alyssa Carman as just the second player on the team to score two or more times in a game this season.
- First year Olivia Watson netted her first career goal in a blue and gold uniform.
- Carman and Maura Graves each added one assist a piece.
- WU held a 28-6 advantage in shots while putting 11 of those attempts on goal.
- The win marks the first time Widener has defeated Albright since it logged a 1-0 decision over the Lions on October 24, 2017.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride peppered the Lions with 18 shots in the first half, but it was Koch who connected on the first one in the 34th minute. Carman took the ball up the far sideline and delivered a pass to Koch in the middle of the box as she fired it past the right side of Albright's keeper to give Widener a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
- The score remained unchanged until the final 12 minutes of the match when Albright evened up the tally on a corner kick with 11:23 left in regulation.
- A Lions yellow card at the 5:04 mark gave Widener a free kick near the top right corner of the penalty box. The Albright goalkeeper bobbled a save on the kick and Watson capitalized to make the score 2-1.
- With time winding down, Albright got one past Widener's keeper as she advanced out to send the match to extra periods.
- After a scoreless opening overtime frame, Graves took the ball up the sideline and sent a cross in front of the net to Koch who knocked in the game-winning goal to bring a close to the match in the 103rd minute.
