Double-Double From Lewis Leads @WidenerMBB Over LVC

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Widener University men's basketball team defeated the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen on the road Wednesday night by a score of 80-67. Despite being down for most of the first half, the Pride retook the lead behind a double-double from sophomore Kenny Lewis and nabbed its ninth conference win of the season.

GAME NOTES
  • Lewis posted his third double-double of the season, notching 15 points and grabbing 11 boards. He now has five career double-doubles in two seasons for the Pride.
  • Jared Peters led the Blue and Gold in scoring with 16 points and pulled down six rebounds.
  • Connor Laverty chipped in with 11 points and six boards.
  • AJ Sawyers provided 10 points and three assists off the bench.
  • The Pride has now recorded 14 games this season where four or more players scored 10+ points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a quick three-pointer by Laverty and a layup off a turnover by Holden to start the game, LVC went on a 10-0 run to go up 10-5 and kept the narrow advantage through much of the first. Down three at the 6:21 mark, the Pride opened up a 19-2 run on 5-of-8 shooting and 6-of-6 on free throws. A big shot from deep by Steven Matlack at the buzzer gave the Blue and Gold a 14-point lead entering halftime.

WU continued to roll in the second act, connecting on four of its first seven shots from beyond the arc. The Dutchmen were able to claw back within six with 8:46 to play, but the Pride fended off their late efforts and held on to the victory.
