Widener Basketball Programs Host Annual Hoops From The Heart Clinic

CHESTER, Pa. - Continuing Widener's goal of engaging with its community, the Widener University basketball programs hosted the 19th Annual Hoops from the Heart Martin Luther King Jr. Day youth basketball clinic this morning at the Schwartz Center.

Nearly 50 participants were on hand for the clinic that was administered by head basketball coaches Chris Carideo and Alisa Kintner. All of the student-athletes from both programs as well as support staffs were in attendance to assist with running skill stations which focused on the fundamentals of basketball such as dribbling, passing, defense, and shooting.

Attendees of the clinic also brought non-perishable food items as part of their registration to be donated to the Community Action Agency of Delaware County (CAADC) and its programs that serve low-income residents in Delaware County. All proceeds raised will benefit programs which include emergency housing, social services, employment training and life skills training.

This was the ninth annual event Widener hosted. The annual MLK Hoops from the Heart basketball clinic was founded in 2002. Clinics also took place at Cabrini University, Haverford College and Neumann University. To date, the clinics have raised more than $100,000 to help the CAADC.
