CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University men's swimming team went down to the final event before pulling out a thrilling 131-123 victory against the Cabrini Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride held a slim 120-117 lead heading into the 200 free relay after Cabrini claimed wins in the 500 free, 100 fly, and 400 IM. Needing a win to claim the meet, the quartet of
Mark Lukens,
Owen Liberatore,
Tim Dando, and
Chris Fleming touched the wall in 1:33.22, less than eight-tenths of a second before their Cavaliers' counterparts, securing the necessary points.
Opening the meet,
Nick Masciandaro, Liberatore, Fleming, and
Martin Bohdan won the 200 medley relay in 1:43.26.
Liberatore also took the top spot in the 1000 free with his time of 10:46.29. In his last individual event of the day, he also topped the list in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:22.76.
Masciandaro won the 100 back with a 57.64 clocking.
Connor Feinour helped the cause for the Blue and Gold with a win in the 200 fly in 2:14.21. Lukens claimed the 50 free at 23.28.
The Pride returns to action next Saturday, January 18 for Senior Day against Arcadia. The meet is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
