GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Widener University women's volleyball team opened play at the Profs Invitational on Friday afternoon, picking up its first win of the season, a 3-0 sweep of Penn State Berks in the second match of the day. The Pride dropped its opening contest 3-0 to Rowan.

NOTES VS. ROWAN (19-25, 12-25, 16-25)
- Shelby Motz led the Pride with six kills in the match. Hollie Jones and Claire Kaufmann each posted four.
- Syudney Nichols set up the majority of the attack with 11 assists.
- Jones and Carly Venit led the defense with three blocks each.
- Widener's best set came in the first when the Pride hit .125 and held Rowan to a .147 clip. The Blue and Gold rallied from 21-13 down in the frame, winning five of the next six points before the Profs closed the game.
NOTES VS. PENN STATE BERKS (25-20, 25-17, 25-20)
- Motz topped the Pride with 11 kills. Jones posted seven without an error, hitting .500.
- Ashley McAfee had 21 digs. Kayla Ewart added 13, her most since coming up with 16 against Moravian on September 16, 2017.
- Jones came out on fire in the match, coming up with five kills and a .625 hitting percentage in the first set, adding a block.
- In the second set, WU raced out to a 14-5 lead. The Pride maintained its edge, going up 23-12. A late rally form the Nittany Lions made the set closer, but Widener kept control. Motz led the way with five kills in the frame.
- PSU-Berks played its closest set in the third, starting the game with a 9-6 lead. The Blue and Gold rallied, scoring 16 of the next 19 points, taking a 22-13 advantage. Trailing by 10, the Nittany Lions made things interesting, scoring five straight to close the gap to 23-18, but Kaufmann closed the match with a kill, giving the Pride its first win.
