FREDERICK, Md. – The Widener University field hockey team got off to a hot start and did not relinquish it as the Pride set the mark for the best start in program history, improving to 9-0 with a MAC Commonwealth victory by a 7-0 final at Hood on Saturday.
The Blue and Gold opened strong as
Kelsi Walker scored just 5:34 into the match and then assisted on a tally by
Madi Radnoff two minutes later. WU was held off the board for the next 19 minutes before posting two more goals before halftime with Walker and
Erin Callahan finding the back of the cage.
In the second half,
Liz Mercado scored twice, sandwiched around a
Lexie Eberly goal to complete the final line.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Widener eclipsed the previous best start in program history of 8-0, which was set in 2007.
- The Pride is now 7-0 all-time against Hood.
- Widener had a 43-0 advantage in shots and a 30-2 mark in penalty corners.
