CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University women's soccer team held SUNY New Paltz to just six shots on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Hawks 3-0 and grabbing its second win of the season.
Highlights
- Lexi Slusher scored her second goal in as many games, coming off of an assist from Alyssa Dionisio.
- Alex Polón recorded her second goal in as many games as well, finishing a shot off a pass from Hannah Berard
- Melissa Koch notched the first two points of her collegiate career, burying the Pride's third goal, following up on a rebounded save.
- Ashton Houbary posted her first career shutout, making three saves along the way.
How it happened
The Pride struck early, taking a 1-0 advantage nearly six minutes into the contest. 11 minutes later, WU found the back of the net again, doubling its lead before heading into the intermission. The blue and gold defense allowed just one shot in the time between the second goal and the break.
Maintaining possession for most of the afternoon, the Pride kept its foot on the gas in the second, creating scoring chances and keeping the Hawk defense on its toes. In the 59th minute, a third Widener goal made the deficit too steep to overcome. WU carried its 3-0 lead until the final whistle.
