TACOMA, Wash. – Shelby Motz totaled 18 kills as the Widener University women's volleyball team opened its season at the Puget Sound Premiere on Friday. The Pride dropped its opening match 3-0 to Pacific Lutheran before falling 3-1 to the host Loggers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. PACIFIC LUTHERAN (19-25, 13-25, 12-25)

• Motz led the pride with nine kills in the match.
• Sydney Nichols had 11 assists. Emma Wilcock contributed eight.
• Ashley McAfee had eight digs.
• Widener had its best chance in the first set when trailing 17-10, the Pride used a 6-1 run, keyed by kills from Motz, Hollie Jones, and Maddie Dutterer.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. PUGET SOUND (16-25, 17-25, 25-14, 14-25)

• Motz and Claire Kaufmann led the way with nine successful attacks each.
• Nichols contributed 11 assists and Mcafee had 14 digs.
• Down two sets to none, Widener rebounded in the third, hitting an impressive .440 with 12 kills and one error in 25 attacks.
