CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University men's lacrosse team turned in its best defensive performance of the season as the Pride topped Lebanon Valley 11-5 in a MAC Commonwealth game on Wednesday night.
 
BY THE NUMBERS

• Matt Horton got the start in goal and made a season-high 17 saves.
• Widener's defense caused seven turnovers in the game. The Pride also held a 28-20 advantage in ground balls.
• Offensively, Connor Heisman led the way with five goals and an assist.
• Paz Gismondi registered four points on a goal and three helpers.
• Nick DiIorio scored twice. Gavin Kirkwood, John Dunbar, and Patrick Richardson each found the back of the net once.
• Colin Savacool was outstanding in the faceoff circle, winning eight of nine.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• In a choppy first quarter, Widener took a 2-0 lead on goals by Heisman at the 10:48 mark and a marker by Dunbar with just more than two minutes remaining.
• LVC tied things up midway through the second period before Widener scored two of its own. A minute after the equalizer, DiIorio came up with his first tally of the evening. With 55 seconds left, the Pride notched the first of three EMO scores on the day as Heisman found rope off a feed from Gismondi.
• Leading 4-3 early in the third, DiIorio and Heisman scored less than a minute apart, extending the edge to 6-3.
• After the Dutchmen closed the gap, Widener posted five of the final six goals to pull away.
