@WidenerLacrosse Offense Explodes on Senior Night

CHESTER, Pa. – 10 first quarter goals by the Widener University men's lacrosse team propelled the Pride to a 24-7 victory over Alvernia University on Friday night. WU honored its 12 seniors prior to the contest for their service and dedication to the program over the past four years.

  • 14 different players found the back of the cage.
  • Brady Franks scored a season-high five goals on just six shots.
  • Gavin Kirkwood and Connor Heisman each went for three goals a piece.
  • Sean Gibson won a career high 16 of his 18 faceoffs.
  • Gio Gismondi caused a career-high five turnovers.
  • In his first action all season, Shane Taylor netted his first goal in two years, missing time due to injury. His goal occurred just over a minute after he stepped on the field.

How it happened
  • The Pride went on a 3-0 in the first four minutes of action.
  • Alvernia got one back, then Widener strung together seven straight, taking a commanding 10-1 lead into the second quarter.
  • The first three points in the second quarter came from Heisman, Patrick Richardson, and Franks.
  • A goal by Heisman just before the intermission made it 14-3 in favor of the Blue and Gold.
  • Jimmy Dolan supplied Widener's 18th goal, the first of his career.
  • Matt Coppola tallied a goal and an assist in the fourth quarter.
  • Taylor's goal was the final score of the day for the Pride.
