Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Late Rally Thwarts @WidenerLacrosse Comeback Effort

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Connor Heisman netted three goals for the Widener University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon, but the Pride fell to the #8 Gettysburg College Bullets by a score of 18-9.

How it happened
Robbie Johnston opened the scoring early, finding the back of the cage just 11 seconds into the first quarter. Gettysburg evened it at one at the 4:24 mark. Both defenses held strong in the first, but the Bullets struck again a few minutes before the stoppage, taking a 2-1 advantage into the second quarter. Five unanswered Gettysburg goals made it 7-1, but Widener did not go down without a fight. Paz Gismondi, Kyle Pollick, and Pat Giaquinto strung together a 3-0 run, cutting the deficit to three before the intermission.

WU won the third quarter 3-2 , with two of its goals coming from the stick of Heisman. Entering the fourth ahead by two, Gettysburg erupted for nine goals, creating a margin too large for Widener to overcome. Brady Franks and Heisman each recorded a score in the final quarter of regulation.

Highlights
  • Heisman's three goals were the first of his collegiate career and his first career hat-trick. The freshman also had two assists, giving him five points on the day
