CHESTER, Pa. – Four players finished with multiple goals for the Widener University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon, leading the Pride to its first victory of the season, defeating Roger Williams University 13-8.
How it happened
Connor Heisman started it off for Widener, finding the back of the cage nearly three minutes into the contest off an assist from
Timmy Certeza. The Hawks tied it two minutes later. The Pride used a 3-0 run, with two more goals from Heisman and one from
Brady Franks, to take a 5-1 advantage into the second quarter. Roger Williams cut into the deficit early in the second, but that's only goal the Pride allowed in the quarter. Two more from Franks and one each from
Timmy Certeza and
Connor Ball created a seven goal margin in favor of the Pride at the intermission.
Defensive adjustments at the break led to decreased scoring in the second half.
Gavin Kirkwood beat the Hawk keeper twice in the third and
Paz Gismondi got in on the scoring as well, giving the Pride goal number 12 just before the final quarter.
Connor Ball got his second of the afternoon in the fourth, then the Hawks recorded two unanswered goals but strong defensive play and goalkeeping from
Carter Landry held off the comeback effort.
