CHESTER, Pa. – 11 different players scored at least four points as the Widener University women's basketball team advanced in the ECAC Division III Women's Basketball Championship with a 65-41 First Round win against the Wilson Phoenix on Wednesday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The win was the 20th of the season for Widener, marking just the second time in program history the Blue and Gold has won 20 or more in a season.
- Devan Rimmer led the Pride with 11 points. Erin Phelan and Mackenzie McCracken each posted eight. Kyra Schenk and Isabella Hamlin both netted six.
- Emily Hardy filled the stat sheet with a team-high eight rebounds, adding four points, three steals, an assist, and a block.
- WU was strong at the line, hitting 17-of-18 free throws.
- The Pride forced 22 turnovers and held a 45-31 edge in rebounding, leading to 11 more field goal attempts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener held the lead from the opening jump, scoring the first 11 points of the game and holding the Phoenix off the board until the 2:57 mark of the opening quarter.
- After a brief rally by Wilson, the Blue and Gold continued to push the pace in the second period, eventually opening a 30-10 lead on a pair of free throws by Phelan with four minutes remaining before halftime. The Phoenix battled back and sliced the deficit to 37-24 leading into the break.
- Strong defense opened the second half for the Pride as once again, it was able to keep Wilson from scoring for the first five minutes of the third quarter, building the lead back to 43-24.
- Widener extended the lead as far as 26 points on a layup by Hardy midway through the fourth period.

With the victory, the Pride moves to the quarterfinals on Friday when it faces Misericordia at 8:00 p.m. on the campus of Cabrini University.
