Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Ball Scores Twice for @WidenerLacrosse Against Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa.Connor Ball scored his first two goals for the Widener University men's lacrosse team, but the Pride fell to the Swarthmore College Garnet by a score of 12-6 on Saturday afternoon.

How it happened
Low scoring the first quarter, Swarthmore broke through first with a goal about eight minutes in. Gavin Kirkwood answered with a goal at the 5:32 mark, tying the game at 1. The two teams entered the second quarter deadlocked. Ball's first goal came with 10:30 remaining in the half and the Pride held a 2-1 advantage until the Garnet found the back of the net three minutes later. Swarthmore jumped back on top with a goal four minutes before the intermission. 17 seconds passed and Robbie Johnston brought it back even at three with his second goal of the year. A Swarthmore goal just ahead of the halftime whistle forced a 1-goal deficit for Widener at the break.

Still battling, the teams traded goals in the third quarter. Ball's second score tied the game at four nearly four minutes into the second half. Two unanswered goals by Swarthmore put the Pride down 6-4 going into the final quarter.

Brian Maienshein found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career, giving the Pride its fifth goal. The last score of the day for Widener came from Drew Amsley off a Chris Hueston assist. However, the offensive explosion by Swarthmore in the fourth was too much for WU to overcome.
