CHESTER, Pa. –
Robbie Johnston scored the first goal of the 2019 season for the Widener University men's lacrosse team but the Pride suffered a 16-3 defeat to #2 Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon.
Matt Horton made six saves on 10 shots in the first period and the Pride scooped six ground balls. The Sea Gulls maintained a comfortable lead all day, entering the half with a nine goal advantage. Widener finally broke through in the last period thanks to Johnston's goal off of an assist from
Brian Maienshein.
Nearly two minutes later,
Timmy Certeza provided the Pride's second goal.
Nick DiIorio fired a shot with two minutes remaining off of a
Gavin Kirkwood pass, teaming up for the final goal of the day for Widener.

Widener returns to action on Saturday, February 23 when it travels to Swarthmore College for a matchup against the Garnet. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
