CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University men's soccer team honored its five seniors prior to its matchup against the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen on Saturday night. The group has contributed to Widener's winningest season since 2015, compiling a record of 9-8-1 in 2019. They have played 173 games, combining for seven goals, seven assists, 21 points, and 98 saves.
The Pride dropped the match 3-2 in double overtime.
How it happened
Widener got on the board first thanks to
Nick LeFevre. The sophomore received a back heel pass from
Peter O'Connor then dribbled through a couple LVC defenders before burying the shot in the back of the net. In the 18th minute, the Pride doubled its lead.
Liam Friel notched his first career goal and it was a beauty. From about five yards outside of the 18, the freshman hit a rocket for the far post after a corner kick made its way to his feet. Widener went into the break up two.
Lebanon Valley quickly narrowed the deficit in the second half, striking in the 46th minute. The Dutchmen tied it in the 84th minute, forcing overtime.
LVC outshot the Pride 6-0 through both overtime periods, capitalizing with 28 seconds left in the second half of extra time.
2019 Regular Season Recap
Nick Brison ended the season tied for the second most goals in the MAC Commonwealth with eight. He was also tied for third in assists with four. His 20 points were the third highest in the regular season.
Peter O'Connor finished tied for the fourth most assists in the conference with three.
