Lewis Goes for Double-Double in @WidenerMBB Win at PSU Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Four starters finished in double-figures, propelling the Widener University men's basketball team to 82-74 victory over Penn State Harrisburg in the Penn State Harrisburg Tip-off Tournament Championship on Sunday night.

Highlights
  • Kenny Lewis posted his third career double-double, going 11 points and 10 boards.
  • Elijah Boyd led the team in scoring for the second straight night, netting 18. He added three assists and three steals. He was named tournament MVP, averaging 17 points and 5.5 rebounds in two games. 
  • Pat Holden dropped 14 points and went 11-12 from the free throw line.
  • Connor Laverty shot 60 percent from the field on his way to 15 points. He stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
  • WU sunk the three at a 41.2 percent clip.
  • The Pride defense forced 19 turnovers, resulting in 25 points.
 
First Half Summary
Back-and-forth early, the teams exchanged leads six times across the opening eight minutes. A layup by Kolbey Woodard at the 11:48 mark sparked a 10-0 run. The Pride stretched its margin to 15 with a little over seven minutes remaining. The Nittany Lions made a valiant comeback effort, cutting the deficit to 35-33. Jared Peters and AJ Sawyers increased the edge to seven heading into halftime.

Second Half Summary
Elijah Boyd and Pat Holden combined for 25 points in the second half, helping the Pride maintain its lead for the remainder of the night. At 5:22, Boyd made a layup, giving WU its largest advantage of the game at 17. PSU Harrisburg cut it to within 10 but a free throw by Holden under the 30-second mark cemented the final score.
