Howe-Consiglio's Last Minute Goal Leads @WidenerFHockey to 12th Straight Win

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A 56th minute goal, coming off the stick of Margaret Howe-Consiglio, helped the Widener University field hockey team pull off the come-from-behind win against Delaware Valley on Tuesday night. The Pride defeated the Aggies 3-2.

Highlights
  • Jackie Daniels scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
  • Jordana Ambros recorded her second and third points of the year with a goal in the third quarter.
  • Howe-Consiglio had one shot throughout the contest and made it count, grabbing the game-winner. It was the fifth of her freshman campaign.
  • WU outshot Del Val 19-6.
  • Jesse Schlosser fired three shots on goal.
  • Sabrina Roberto made two saves.

How it happened
Delaware Valley took an early one-goal lead nine minutes in and carried it into the second quarter. The Pride generated five shots in the second, but strong goalkeeping kept the margin at one heading into the intermission.

WU wasted little time before knotting the score in the second half. Widener carried the ball into the DVU zone and forced two penalty corners in the first five minutes of the third quarter. At the 36:26 mark, Ambros finished on a rebounded shot in front of the cage, making it 1-1. Delaware Valley regained the edge with 12 seconds remaining in the third.

Trailing in the fourth quarter for the first time all season, the Pride came out firing in the final 15 minutes. Daniels' goal came just over a minute into the period. The Blue and Gold was rewarded six corners in the fourth quarter and held the Aggies to zero shots. Tied at two with fewer than four minutes remaining, Howe-Consiglio ripped a shot from the middle past the Del Val keeper, sealing the 12 straight victory for Widener.
