OWINGS MILLS, Md. –
Nick Brison scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year, helping the Widener University men's soccer team secure a point in a 1-1 draw against the Stevenson University Mustangs on Friday night.
Stevenson controlled possession early on, outshooting the Pride 5-1 across the opening 40 minutes. The Mustangs found the back of the net in the 41st, carrying their lead into the intermission.
John Warwick made two saves in the first half.
Adjustments during the break by Widener paid off quickly. In the 46th minute,
Devon Santos forced a turnover, getting the ball in the Stevenson zone. The Pride was rewarded a corner kick shortly after.
Liam Friel took the corner and played a ball to the far post, finding the foot of
Chase Evans. Evans ripped a shot with his right that was saved by the Mustang keeper.
Noah Saba headed the rebounded save but the goalie stopped that shot as well, leaving a rebound for
Nick Brison. The sophomore took a touch then fired a rocket into the top near corner of the goal.
Warwick made three huge saves in the second half, including a diving effort in the 63rd minute on a header making its way to the bottom corner of the net.
The Mustangs had six shots through both overtime periods to the Pride's one. Warwick and the defense did not break, maintaining the draw and leaving with an important point against a conference opponent.
