Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

@Widener_Soccer Hangs Tough with #17 Messiah

CHESTER, Pa. Jeroen Kortekaas got his first start, posting a career-high nine saves, but the Widener University men's soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to #17 Messiah in a MAC Commonwealth showdown on Saturday night.

How it happened
Messiah got on the board in the ninth minute for the only score of the game. Maintaining possession for most of the match, the Falcons could not build upon its lead despite creating numerous chances. Kortekaas mad spectacular stops throughout the night with the Falcons goal coming on a rebounded save. Shea Morgan's shot in the first half was kept out of the net by the Messiah goalie.

Keeping the pressure, Messiah fired 14 shots in the second half. The Pride keeper allowed Widener to stay within striking distance, stopping everything that came his way. Nick Brison was responsible for the Blue and Gold's lone shot in the final 45 minutes.

Up next
Widener returns to action on Saturday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Hood for a MAC Commonwealth clash.
