CHESTER, Pa. –
Devan Rimmer led four players in double figures with 16 points including the 1,000th of her career as the Widener University women's basketball posted its highest scoring output in more than six years, downing the Hood Blazers 97-57 in a MAC Commonwealth battle on Saturday.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Rimmer scored her milestone basket on the first field goal of the second quarter, taking the inbound pass to open the half straight to the net.
- Erin Phelan, Kya Schenk, and Mackenzie McCracken each netted 14 in the contest. For Schenk and McCraken, the total represented a career-high.
- Emily Hardy led the Blue and Gold with six rebounds and reached a milestone of her own, pulling in her 500th career board.
- Madison Ireland delivered nine assists in the contest.
- WU shot a season-best 58.7 percent from the floor and for the second consecutive game, turned the ball over a season low eight times.
- The 97 points by the Pride are the most by Widener since a 106-71 victory at Arcadia on December 12, 2012.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener got off to a fast start in the contest, taking a 13-4 lead less than five minutes in. Continuing the push, the Pride extended to a 28-13 edge on a Rimmer three-pointer with 55 seconds left in the frame. McCracken and Phelan did the majority of their damage in the opening 10 minutes as each dropped 10 in the first quarter.
- The Blue and Gold continued to push the pace, lengthened its lead as the second quarter moved forward, going up 53-26 at the half.
- The second half saw an extension of the lead as the Pride held off the Blazers through the final whistle.
