@WUWVB Keeps Rolling on Second Day of Rowan Invitational

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Widener University women's volleyball team continued its hot start to the season, closing its run at the Rowan Invitational with a pair of sweeps, downing Keystone and Penn State Abington by identical 3-0 scores.

For their efforts during the four matches, Carly Venit and Nicole Dorman were named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
NOTES VS. KEYSTONE (25-13, 25-16, 25-11)
  • Shelby Motz had a strong overall match with six kills, six aces, and 11 digs.
  • Kelsey Lee led the Pride with seven kills.
  • Ashley McAfee matched Motz with 11 digs for team-high honors.
  • Emma Wilcock was tops on Widener with 17 assists.
  • The Blue and Gold never trailed by more than three in any set and used hot starts to set the tone. Widener went up 12-1 in the first, 9-3 in the second, and 11-5 in the third.
 
NOTES VS. PENN STATE ABINGTON (25-13, 25-18, 25-10)
  • Claire Kaufmann led the way with 11 kills against just one error in 16 swings, hitting .625.
  • Nicole Dorman had eight kills and 10 digs. With her final successful attack of the afternoon, Dorman moved into second place on the all-time Widener kills list with 1,202.
  • Motz posted five more aces.
  • Carly Venit had five blocks and three aces.
  • With the Nittany Lions keeping it close in the opening set at 9-6, Widener went on a 10-2 run to open a 19-8 lead.
  • The second set was close as neither team held more than a three point lead midway through the frame. Three quick points for the Pride put the Blue and Gold up 18-14 as Widener steadily pulled away from there to win the set.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride opens conference play hosting Lycoming on Tuesday, September 11. Opening serve from the Schwartz Center is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
