@WUWVB Downs Lycoming to Open Conference Play

CHESTER, Pa. – Nicole Dorman led the way with 15 kills, eight digs, while hitting over .400 as the Widener University women's volleyball team continued to roll, winning its eighth straight match, downing Lycoming 3-1 on Tuesday night.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • The eight wins in a row are the most for the Pride since prior to the 2003 season, surpassing the six straight the Blue and Gold won at the beginning of 2008.
  • Dorman's 15 kills were a season high. She committed just three errors in 29 swings.
  • Emma Wilcock led Widener with 23 assists and six aces, including four in a row to open the fourth set.
  • Hollie Jones contributed on the attack with a career-high seven kills, hitting .385.
 
FIRST SET NOTES (25-14)
  • Lycoming got the early jump, going up 6-4. WU responded, ripping off six points in a row and nine of 10 to take a 13-7 lead.
  • After the Warriors used a 5-2 run to slice the lead to 17-14, Widener ended the set, scoring eight straight points on Dorman's serve to go up 1-0.
  • The Pride did not commit an error in the frame, hitting .667.
  • Jones and Claire Kaufmann led the attack with three kills each.
 
SECOND SET NOTES (25-13)
  • Widener went on top early 8-4. Midway through the set, the Pride took command, using a 6-0 run to build an 18-8 advantage, maintaining the edge for the remainder of the set.
  • Dorman powered an offense that hit .550 in the stanza with five kills.
  • Ashley McAfee had five of her eight digs in the match in the second set.
 
THIRD SET NOTES (19-25)
  • The Warriors raced to a quick 6-1 lead before the Pride grabbed an 8-7 lead.
  • Scoring three of the next four points, Lycoming steadily pulled away and never trailed the remainder of the set.
  • Dorman had four kills for Widener.
 
FOURTH SET NOTES (25-22)
  • The Pride opened the frame on a 6-0 run, the last four of which came on services aces from Wilcock.
  • Lycoming forced its way back and took a 10-8 lead. The Warriors held the advantage until four straight points from Widener pushed WU up 16-14.
  • After building the lead to 22-18, the Pride seemed to have the match in hand before a late Warriors rally tied the set. Undaunted, Widener bore down and recorded the final three points to claim victory.
  • Kelsey Lee posted three kills for WU against no errors in five swings.
 
UP NEXT
Widener is in action again on Friday when it competes at the Knights Invitational on the campus of Neumann University. The Pride faces Moravian at 4:00 p.m. prior to taking on NYU at 8:00 p.m.
