@WidenerFHockey Grinds Out a Huge Win

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Widener University field hockey team notched its second consecutive win on Saturday night, defeating Wilkes 5-4 in shootouts.

KEY PLAYERS
  • Sam Scoma tallied her first goal of the 2018 season.
  • Kelsi Walker was pivotal, scoring one goal and assisting on another.
  • Jesse Schlosser got her second goal of the season in the 28th minute.
  • Jordana Ambros was relentless in her attack, getting off six shots, giving the Pride its first lead in the sixth minute, and beating the Wilkes goalie again in the stroke-off.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener jumped out to promising 3-1 lead in the 23rd minute.
  • Wilkes narrowed the gap in the 26th, but Widener responded with its fourth goal less than two minutes later.
  • The Pride went into halftime with a 4-2 lead, but two Colonel goals in the second half forced overtime.
  • Neither team was able to put one in the cage during both overtime periods.
  • Stroke-off goals by Ambros and Lexie Eberly cemented a Pride victory.
  • Sabrina Roberto made nine key saves in the contest.
