VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Widener University women's volleyball team opened its season on Friday night with a pair of matches at the Virginia Wesleyan Invitation. The Pride fell by identical 3-0 scores to the host Marlins and the Randolph Macon Yellow Jackets.
 
NOTES VS. VIRGINIA WESLEYAN

• Nicole Dorman led Widener with her first double-double of the season, recording 11 kills and 11 digs, hitting .235 for the contest.
• In her first collegiate appearance, Shelby Motz delivered nine kills and hit .400.
• Emma Wilcock led the Blue and Gold with 18 assists while Ashley McAfee added 11 kills.
• Widener's best set came in the second when it forced VWU to extra points before falling 28-26.

 
NOTES VS. RANDOLPH MACON

• Dorman once again led the attack for the Pride with nine kills, while adding a team-high 14 digs.
• Wilcock topped the Blue and Gold with 15 assists and two service aces.
• Carly Venit hit .250 for the match while Claire Kaufmann hit .176.

Widener concludes play at the VWU Invitational with a pair of matches on Saturday. The Pride faces Alverno at 9:30 a.m. before a 1:30 p.m. contest against Geneva.
