@WidenerLacrosse Controls Both Sides of the Ball to Down Hood

CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University men's lacrosse team used a strong effort on both sides of the ball, downing the Hood Blazers 18-2 on Friday night for its second straight win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With the clock winding down in the first quarter, the Pride opened the scoring as DiIorio netted his sixth tally of the season with 36 seconds remaining. Just 29 seconds later, Kirkwood found the back of the net off a feed from Anthony Paone, giving WU a 2-0 lead after the first 15 minutes.
  • Paz Gismondi extended the lead two-and-a-half minutes into the second quarter, taking a tough angle shot from the left side.
  • Widener took advantage of an EMO as Kirkwood netted his first of the game with 6:40 remaining before halftime. 31 seconds later, Mitchell Phillips found rope, ripping a shot straightaway from 10 yards out, pushing the Pride to the 5-0 lead it enjoyed at the half.
  • The Blue and Gold continued to push the advantage, expanding the lead to 9-0 before the Blazers tallied their first goal of the match with 35 seconds left in the third period.
  • Widener had a nine goal outburst in the fourth quarter with eight different players scoring.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride returns to action on Wednesday, April 11 when it travels to Messiah for a MAC Commonwealth matchup. Opening faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
