Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

@WidenerLacrosse Drops Defensive Battle on Rainy Tuesday Night

CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University men's lacrosse team saw four different players score, but the Pride fell 7-4 in a defensive struggle to the Albright Lions in a MAC Commonwealth contest under rainy conditions on Tuesday night at Quick Stadium.

BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, Widener broke the ice early in the second. After a shot from Kirkwood pinged the post, Phillips picked up the ground ball right in front of the net and fired into the open cage 39 seconds into the frame. The Blue and Gold upped the lead to 2-0 just more than two minutes later as Kirkwood scored on a nifty pass from Brady Franks.
  • The Lions cracked the scoreboard for the first time at the 8:34 mark of the period, starting a 3-0 run that needed just 2:53 to complete, giving Albright a 3-2 lead heading into halftime.
  • Sloppy play on both sides marred the opening seven minutes of the third quarter as the teams combined for nine turnovers before the Lions extended their lead at the 8:01 mark. After the goal, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was assessed for the celebration.
  • On the ensuing EMO, Widener wasted little time as Drake took a feed in front of the nest from Paz Gismondi and found rope, cutting the advantage to 4-3.
  • Albright struck first in the final frame a little more than a minute in to take a two-goal lead.
  • Widener responded two minutes later as Richardson used a strong individual effort to cut the deficit back to 5-4 with 11:40 to play.
  • That was as close as the Pride got the rest of the game as the Lions scored less than a minute later and added an insurance marker late in the contest.
