@WidenerLacrosse Holds Off Dutchmen for Key MAC Commonwealth Win

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Widener University men's lacrosse team extended its scoreless streak to six periods as the Pride built a lead and then held on for a 7-6 win against the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen on Saturday afternoon.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Kevin Kerby led the Pride with three goals in the contest.
  • Gavin Kirkwood scored twice for Widener. Nick DiIorio had a three point day with a goal and two assists.
  • Patrick Richardson added a tally for the Pride.
  • Anthony Paone was 13-of-16 on faceoffs.
  • By holding the Dutchmen off the board into the second half, WU extended its opponents' scoreless streak to 94 minutes and 34 seconds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener jumped on the board with two goals in the first six minutes as DiIorio and Kirkwood both found the back of the net. Kirkwood added a second marker with three minutes to go in the frame as the Pride took a 3-0 lead at the end of 15 minutes.
  • Early in the second period, Kerby found rope twice in a 58 second span, extending the edge to 5-0 at the 10:26 mark of the period.
  • LVC ended the scoreless streak for Widener 36 second into the second half and added a second tally six minutes later to pull to 5-2 with a little more than six minutes left in the third.
  • WU battled back as Richardson scored with four minutes left in the frame, as the Blue and Gold took a 6-2 lead into the final stanza.
  • Kerby finished off his hat trick early in the final quarter.
  •  The Dutchmen made things interesting, scoring four times in the final 10 minutes, but the Pride held them off in the last two minutes for the win.
 
UP NEXT
Widener returns to the field on Tuesday, April 24 when it hosts Albright. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
